Throat/swallowing changes after ADR?

Hi Everyone,

I had a 3 level Prodisc C ADR about 5 weeks ago. My recovery is coming along wonderfully. I am thrilled with the decrease in chronic neck/arm/shoulder pain and numbness. I had the usual sore throat for several days following the surgery. My throat pain is long gone....but my throat feels entirely different than it did before surgery. It is a little hard to describe....most noticable when I am swallowing...especially something like big vitamins. I used to be able to put a handful of supplements in my mouth and swallow them all at once. Now I can barely do one at a time. It seems like my throat diameter is smaller than before? I have to be a little careful to make sure I chew my food up before swallowing (probably a good thing). I'm curious if other cervy ADR patients have noticed a change like I am describing with swallowing after surgery?

when I had my double fusion it took forever to try to swallow pills. I had to be careful and you will too. I would think the throat is swollen from having all the muscle and parts moved around. It should get better soon.

This is normal and will stabilize in time. I also almost choked to death on a Motrin 800 that got lodged in my throat during the first week or so after surgery. I had enough internal air in me that the pill came flying out and shot across the room. I also cut my food in to little bites for the first couple of months after ADR surgery.

I am now back to being a pig and can swallow what I want. :D

This is just normal swelling from the surgery. Hang in there.
