need help for wife

My wife has DDD in L4-L5 and L5-S1, she has been threw all of the non-surgical stuff (injections, therapy, accupuncture, etc) and now we are at the point of needing surgery. We have been to a local Neuro.Surgian who wants to do ALIF at L5-S1 with the possibiilty of having to do minimal type fusion at L4-L5 later on down the road. We went to Ortheopedic who wants to do disc replacement at L5-S1, we like what the disc replacement has to offer just not real sure about the Dr. not having that much experience.

We have been doing some reasearch here lately on the internet about Dr.'s in Germany, but it seems that all the posts we have been reading are all a year or more old. We were wondering if some of these Dr.'s are still practicing and if so which one is the best at doing lumbar disc replacement, any and all advice and help is greatly appreciated.

Hi lyden and welcome to the forum,

I'm sorry for your wife's circumstances but am glad that you found us. You are both wise to seek more than one opinion and though we know no specifics about your wife's condition, it seems that fusion is a drastic measure for a first surgery, especially given that your doctor felt trying other non-invasion remedies first in hoping they might work.

Yes, two top doctors are still in Germany, I think. Dr. Bertagnoli is in Germany, and Dr. Zeegers used to be but has recently moved. Mark, the founder of this forum would know and utilizing his services is probably your quickest route to contacting both of them. GPN Artificial Disc Replacement ADR.

Give him a call and please tell us more about where you are and a few more specifics about your wife's condition.

re who is the best

Hi Lyden
Glad you found this forum as well and are open minded to multiple consults and considering best option for your wife's clinical picture or what you think might be the best option.

I'm with Dale in terms of contacting Mark at link posted in previous post. He has been of considerable assistance to so many of us here so IMHO it would really be beneficial to give him a call and see what he has to say.

Good luck to your wife w/future consults and whatever option is chosen.
