Atlantoaxial Rotary Fixation C1-C2
Hi,
I had a fall in June this year. I hurt my neck..Somehow C2 is rotated and subluxed with atlantoaxial rotary fixation. The Doc is suggesting a C1-C2 fusion...BUT... 1. He's not sure he can put the C1 and C2 back in their normal p;lace 2. Fusing C1-C2 won't correct this deformity 3. Fusing will block 50% of neck rotation 4.Fusing will put more demand on lower levels. I don't know what to do. Apparently this is very rare. Also, if they would have caught this at 6 weeks, they could have just done some traction and I'd be fine...now I'm at 12 weeks and looking at surgery in 10 days with not a positive outcome.. Anyone have and advice? Thanks |
Welcome and really sorry you are here with such a rare problem too.
The only thing i can think of is to get a second and maybe third opinion. Maybe this surgeon you are with is not the best for this type of surgery. It would probably mean changing your surgery date as you only have few days left. My thoughts are sure with you. Judy |
I would...
try a very agressive chiropractor first. I have had three fusions and it has not solved my problems. I had a fixated rib years ago and chiroprator got it worked out after three months. I hope you find the same result. Cheryl

Did you have the surgery? How are you doing?

C1-c@
Saw the surgeon...actually 2 of them...both said it was too dangerous to do surgery and might give me new pain....one said the vertebrae is 'stuck' now and nothing will move it...I just have to wait until it fuses on it's own...I guess a chiropractor would be useless...
