Default Remember the Mass General website

Anyone here still go to Braintalk? The Mass General Neuro forum (or others)? I've not been back on it since it went down a number of years ago and currently am not able to get back on. I think John Lester ran it?

Hi Maria... I took a quick poke around and found this article by John Lester about the history of the Braintalk forums:

BrainTalk Communities Inc - John Lester talks about BrainTalk's early days

Here is a link to the new spinal disorders forum. You'll recognize some names there.

Spinal Disorders

I don't know how active it is... When I have a chance, I'll go back and reconnect. I credit Braintalk with saving me from making a serious mistake. When I found them, I had a 2-level lumbar fusion scheduled and had no idea what the stakes were. While I may have been a success, I was clearly making an uninformed decision.

Default braintalk

Thanks Mark! I still remember your posts back from those days re your upcoming trip to Germany for ADR surgery and afterwards your recovery! This was pretty much back in the day where ADR was hardly heard of in the US!

I'm eternally thankful you were writing about all this on Braintalk because I think that's what first made me reconsider having the 3 level global lumbar fusion ~ I'm so glad I didn't do that surgery even if I didn't take advantage of having the ADR surgery!

I remember Dr. Whitworth was awesome.

I logged into braintalk, maybe last summer, and no one had posted for over a month. I see now there is a little activity there.

Default Dr. Whitworth

He was really a great asset to that forum. He answered a question I had with regard to getting a 3 level global fusion to help with my pain and pretty much said he didn't think that would be very successful. I am paraphrasing because I know his reply was one of the influencing factors in my decision not to have a 3 level global fusion along with a call back from Dr.Dillon of Kerlan Jobe back during that time. Dr. Dillon spent a half hour on the phone with me talking to me like I was the next door neighbor. He pretty much said the same thing Dr.Whitworth did.

Then there was Mark going off to Germany for his ADRs and keeping us updated at the forum that kept me going and hoping for life thereafter failed spine surgery~ thanks infinity (and the two docs mentioned and all the good peeps who were so supportive over these last 12 plus years I've been online and participating in various spine forums)!

Good to hear from you Jim~ how are you?

Default MGH Forums

I learned so much from the Spinal Disorders forum. The information that users shared regarding their spinal issues provided me with a great deal of information and support. I think that I was a regular on that forum for about three years.

The information that Mark posted regarding ADR was very helpful. I went to Germany eleven months after his surgery. The information that Mark shared with the forum about his ADR were invaluable.

I remember Mark, Maria, and Doreen from the MGH forum. I missed out on getting to Germany when Doreen went for her ADR. Our procedures were a couple of weeks apart.

My best to everyone.
