Surgery Again

My countdown is in progress , i am having spine surgery #10 on Monday Sept 9th. It will be an anterior fusion and discectomy of L2 thru L5. My surgeon said my vertebrae have become wedged in that area and are kyphotic instead of the normal lordosis. this has caused me to walk in a more and more hunched over position which effects my breathing as well as my GERD. He is going to hopefully improve my sagittal alignment by 40 degrees or percentage, i forgot now. I am hoping to come out of this in better shape than going in and be able to walk more upright, i really feel like i am walking like a gorilla at this point aside from the extreme soreness it causes in my back muscles. I was going to have a different surgeon do a long fusion with an osteomoty at L3 and fuse to my pelvis, but my surgeon who has done most of my surgery recommended this procedure to see if i can get improvement with this. I will post updates as soon as i get my computer at the hospital if i am coherent enough!!!

re upcoming surgery

Hey Judy,
I was just thinking about you a half hour ago while in my kitchen making lunch! Was going to call Mark and ask him if he'd heard from you so I'm glad I checked in here so I'd catch this update!

I wish you the best possible surgery, recovery and outcome! I hope this will do the trick for you.

Earlier today I saw a woman going up the stairs at the Vet's and she was bent at the waist to walk up the stairs. She straightened out just a bit as she got at the top of the stairs to go inside. I guess that made me think of you in that instant. I was getting in my car with Alaska to leave because if I had been closer to her I know I would have found myself asking the obvious question "do you have back problems?"

Anyway again hope all goes GREAT! I know you're not going to feel like posting anytime right after your surgery though whenever you can I'll look forward to hearing how you're doing!

hugs and best~ Maria
