Default collapsed disc height and lordosis

The spinal surgeon I saw recently told me that because my L4-5 and L5- S1 discs were collapsed, that I had developed a mild flatback, or loss of normal lordosis (normal curve) in the lumbar area. I am bone on bone in that area. Does anyone know if you can live with bone on bone on two levels? If I don't do anything, what will eventually happen? Will my vertebrae fuse together? Will my back continue to lose its normal lumbar curve?

I need to know what will happen (aside from the pain) if I do nothing.

Thanks,

Ann
