I haven't used an inversion table, but I have a home traction unit. I think it is superior to inversion table because you don't have to deal with getting upside down. You lie face down on some pillows and apply the traction yourself.

It was called IsoTrac and was built by a spine patient from Alaska. It's very simple. I liked it and I think it helped. For most of us, by the time we know we have a problem, we really have a problem that is not going to be addressed by this type of therapy. But... I know a few people who have gotten long term relief from such things.
