Hi
I don't know what a medial branch injection is exactly. I can just tell you i have had tons of epidurals and nerve blocks in all 3 areas of my spine. My doc uses general anesthesia and when i wake up the nurses are right there with dilaudid injections for pain. so yes, i do feel the pain of the injections after for a day or 2. The next day seems to feel like my doc had a punching match using my back. After that it starts to get better , if it is going to. My longest relief was almost a year, the shortest , nada!!! Good luck, i hope you feel better tomorrow and each day after! judy

Frequently, there are 2 components to the injection. One is a short acting local anesthetic will provide relief for one or more hours (depending on how long-acting an anesthetic they use. The second part of the injection is often a steriod that might not kick in for a day or two, then will only help if your problem is related to an inflammatory response that is reached and reduced by the steriod.
Good luck! Let us know what the doctor says. Ask her what types of injectant they used. Mark
