Dan, thanks for posting.

It's funny how many manufacturers have tried to group all the other discs into "first generation". However, the elastomer design of the Freedom disc is a significant departure from the plastic and metal, or all metal ball and socket designs of Charite, ProDisc, Activ-L, Mobidisc, Flexicore, Maverick, etc...

There was an attempt at an elastomer disc called the Acroflex, but back when it was done, they did not have an elastomer compound that was durable enough. I've been watching several new elastomer discs for the last few years at the conferences... I'm so happy to finally meet an elastomer patient.
