Default Straubing - Römerhof Hotel & Restaurant

I just spoke to Cheryl. She's staying at the Roemerhof and she just told me about how Eckhart and his staff are being so very kind to her and Jean. I'll leave it to her to tell about that, but I want to use this opportunity to kick-off the Roemerhof thread.

Hotel Roemerhof

Information for Pro-Spine patients from the Roemerhof

The first 2 pictures (below) are from my first client trip to Straubing and Bogen. In January 2005, Chuck and Mark had surgery at St. Elisabeth in Straubing, while Laura had surgery in Bogen. (Imagine me taking care of 3 people, with one in the hotel, and 2 clients in 2 different hospitals!) Eckhard's support is amazing. He would make special trips to the market to make sure that he had their favorite fruits or melons for breakfast. His wife works at the library and offered to bring DVD's for us to watch. In the years I've known him (now more than 4), I've watched him go so far out of his way to help the patients. Eckhard is a treasure and I can't say enough wonderful things about him.

Looking the other way... I love the sky in this photo.

December 2005: Mark's wife, Diane, Valerie (another patient's wife), Anita (former Pro-Spine coordinator), Eckhard (Roemerhof owner), Mark, Bradley (the most amazing cervical story... see his own surgery website linked on the GPN story page), Donna (Bradley's wife) & Margaret (Steve's wife).

Eckhard's restaurant is wonderful. We expecially like the Zander... a local fresh water pike. I'll never pass up an Eiskaffee (unless it's late in the day... it'll keep me awake.)

Thumbs up Hotel Romerhof

I have just returned from the Hotel Romerhof and it was wonderful!! The service and the food are fabuolus and I can be a hotel snob. We joked that they must've had cameras on us because they anticpated our needs in advance without us even asking. For instance, when I arrived there from the hospital I sat on the bed and was quietly observing that everything seemed to0 low for a recovering spine patient. Next, there comes a knock on the door with a handicapped toilet seat! And they have a luggage rack they will bring to your room because the bench intended for that is too low. We were drinking so much coffee at breakfast that they starting bringing us full pots and even had one delivered to our door on the morning. They also have a coffee machine for your room if you ask. From the front desk to the cleaners to the restaurant, they are so accustomed to seeing patients and your special needs so I always felt comfortable. I would bring three pillows to breakfast and dinner and no one batted an eye - they just want to see me feel better.
The food in the restaurant is fabulous. Mark mentioned the white perch and I have to agree!! The salads are fresh and crisp. I hear the soup is great although after 3 days of broth in the hospital I'm not sure I'll ever eat soup again. Jean and I still talk about the breakfasts we miss. The fresh breads and cheeses just can't be beat!!

I give it 5 stars!

Cheryl

I was saddened to learn that Eckhard and his family have left the Roemerhof. It seemed that his personality and service is what defined the hotel and made it such a wonderful place. Good bye, my friend.

I'm very happy to report that Familie Hecht, who presently run the am Platzl Bogen, will be taking over the Roemerhof on May first! I have known them for years and am actually posting from the am Platzl right now. They take such good care of us and do so many extra things to make our stays here more pleasant.

Willkommen Familie Hecht!

Vielen Danke,

Mark
